Cheikh Tidiane Keïta

Cheikh Tidiane Keïta is a born artist. He is a painter and a musician. He has a great passion for art, something that has led through several courses to master the tools and techniques of painting.

Cheikh belongs to the young generation of Senegalese artists. He is one of the torch-bearers of the heavy and noble heritage left by the generation of the great Senegalese percussionist Djibril Ndiaye and jealously maintained by generations of Douts. His work was revealed to audiences worldwide in 2005-2006, during a competition for a Union Award, which he won.

Cheikh’s work considers different aspects of daily life in his native Senegal. The somber paintings express the sadness of his young characters. They show individuals sitting on ordinary objects, their spine bent, giving off vibes of young men racked by thoughts of escape or migration. The choice of colors, sometimes gentle, at times aggressive reflects the mood and the state of torment in which the canvas has enveloped him.

Cheikh is deeply rooted in African culture, from whence he draws his inspiration, resulting in the originality of his work. Cheikh is also part of a young and talented, Takeita, all family members, where he is a solo guitarist.

Cheikh Tidiane Keïta est un artiste né. Il est peintre et musicien. Il a une grande passion pour l’art, chose qui l’a conduit à suivre plusieurs stages pour une maîtrise des outils et techniques de création.

Cheikh fait partie de la jeune génération des artistes sénégalais. Il est l’un des portes flambeau de l’héritage à la fois lourd et noble laissé par la génération des Djibril Ndiaye et jalousement entretenu par la génération de Douts. Son œuvre a été révélée au public international en 2005 – 2006, à l’occasion du concours pour le prix de l’Union dont il était lauréat.

L’œuvre de Cheikh traite différents aspects de la la vie quotidienne de son Sénégal natal. Les peintures sobres expriment la tristesse de ses jeunes personnages. Ces tableaux montrent des individus assis sur des objets sommaires, l’échine courbée dégageant les traits des jeunes gagnés par le souci de l’évasion ou de l’émigration. Le choix de ces couleurs, parfois douces, par moment agressives témoigne de l’humeur du moment et l’état de confrontation dans lequel l’entraîne la toile. 

Cheikh est profondément enraciné dans la culture africaine qui est sienne, d’où il puise l’essentiel de son inspiration, ce qui donne beaucoup d’originalité à son œuvre. Cheikh fait parti d’un jeune et talentueux groupe Takeifa ou il exerce son talent de guitariste soliste.
